ICCF offer a range of learning and training courses throughout the year. The following activities have been run in the past are supported through our Drop In Centre in Dagenham, London, and are separate from our 'education' courses.

Job Search Clinics

At the beginning of the year, we established a job club, which included a rolling programme of carer information and advice. The job club gave people from the community the opportunity to develop appropriate skills. The project supported the economic regeneration of the borough.

Youth Training Programme

Thirty (30) young black and ethnic minority people benefited from the training we organised and delivered sponsored by Community Chest. As a result of this training programme, 10% of those who attended have improved their educational performance. The confidence of the local BME groups has also risen. As a result of this, the local community feel a sense of ownership.

St. John’s Ambulance Training

We organised a 4-day intensive training, which was conducted by the St. John’s ambulance team. The training was well attended by different groups of people from the community and all those who attended the training managed to achieve the required quality mark in first aid. This was a major boost      for most of those that attended the training who will never have had the opportunity to learn such a skill for life if not for the activities and vision of ICCF.

Youth Cultural Diversity

This was organised during the year. It is a rolling programme of development in various areas such as art, theatre, music, dance and drama. Other programmes included in the children and young people’s project include story telling, helping with homework, computer training, summer play schemes, after school and Saturday clubs and touring historical places.

Mentoring – Promoting Potential and Raising Achievement

This is a new initiative that was launched this year. It is a mentoring initiative to promote and raise achievement as well as provide innovative solutions to the problems caused by alienation, social exclusion and marginalisation among the young black and ethnic minority community in Barking and Dagenham. The ultimate aim of the initiative is to build motivation and personal development of social life skills for the socially excluded and disaffected young people aged between 13 – 25 years.

Children’s Discussion Meeting

This is part of the youth cultural diversity project. The aim of the activity was to encourage a culture of healthy group discussions amongst the younger age group children in the community. A series of meetings were held at the drop in centre to discuss and identify solutions and make recommendations on a number of issues that will enhance the progress and development of future plans for children in the community.

Capacity Building

ICCF recognises that sustainable development, economic regeneration, and better education for all is contingent upon the creation of a strong voluntary sector and community infrastructure. The support for the existing voluntary community sector groups to grow up and contribute to the local and national economy through job creation, personal development and assertiveness training is critical.

A series of training and consultation capacity building meetings were held with CEMVO. A lot of the policies generated by the management committee have been developed and adopted as a result of the tireless efforts of the project manager.  The local CVS and EMPA also played a significant role in the capacity building of ICCF’s programmes and regular activities.
